Kayli Winchester is still recovering from her last adventure and is out hunting for her missing brother, Wil, when Ethan Murdock calls, asking for help. Billions of dollars have gone missing and Kayli is the perfect person to find them – as one of the few people Ethan trusts.
Only one problem The team is led by Blake Coaltar.
Kayli negotiates her way into a co-lead position, but for the Academy guys, that might not be good enough. The Academy doesn’t trust Blake and the last thing they want is for her to get mixed up with him.
The guys can't persuade the willful Kayli to abandon the cause. They give her five days to convince them they should stay in this job. If she can’t, the boys want her to walk away.
Kayli goes undercover and becomes the hot topic around some of the most wealthy and powerful CEOs in Charleston. Now she has to prove she’s a secret investor for old Mr. Murdock from before he disappeared, and convince them all she’s the real deal. She dives into her assignment head-first, but one uncovered complication after another threatens the mission.
No matter how close to the chest Kayli plays her hand, secrets have a way of being discovered, and Axel, Corey, Brandon, Marc and Raven aren't going to like the truth she’s keeping from them. Being forced to work together for a week with an enemy may tear them all apart, leaving Kayli with nothing.
It might be up to Blake Coaltar to save them from each other.

Another excellent book in this series. Well written and the plot moves along nicely. The author seems to introduce a new adventure for our heroine which will probably take several books to get through, which for us readers is great. While utilizing her Academy team and linking in a mix of characters from earlier books we are off on a new sluthing project which seems way too big for this little band of heroes and heroines. The ongoing angst between the girls and boys keeps going hot and heavy and lots of gender norms and non-traditional relationships are explored and consummated so the book may not appeal to people with strong religious beliefs and probably is not for the kids. The author explores some concepts and relationships that don't crop up in everyday life but have been around in some cultures at different times in history. Lots of passion, though I did not find much real romance, and it can be a bit graphic in places. You will probably laugh at how dumb the heroine is at times and the scope of the problem they are trying to solve is pretty much beyond belief given the basic skills of the team but if you suspend belief a bit you will get a great read out of this book and the series.
Up until this book, I did not feel that it was as good as the author's Ghost Bird series but this one lifted my interest and I think the rest of the series will be much stronger than the earlier books. The only real draw back is that the next book is not scheduled for release for another year or so.

Accessory The Scarab Beetle Series #4 The Academy Scarab Beetle Series edition by C L Stone Romance eBooks Reviews
Finally! After sounding like a broken record reviewing the last 3 books in this series, we finally started moving forward. There is character interaction on a relationship level. Kayli seems to be coming into her own a bit. She's starting to admit her feelings, beyond simple attraction, for the boys and being a bit more assertive. She's still plenty self-centered, but is starting to express herself. She did fool around with one naked, give a hand job to another, and have sex with a third, BUT at least she had conversations about her feelings with a couple of the guys. It's not much, but more than her just wallowing and focusing completely on herself. I still do not understand still why any of the boys would be interested in her, why they think she's strong and amazing. I think she's selfish, causes one problem after another with her poor judgement, and never once thinks about what these great guys need. I'm tired of her running around looking like a hobo, being so tired, and eating like a bottomless pit. These are not endearing qualities. The bathroom scene gives me hope though.
This plot is again far-fetched, but we do have the return of Future/Fancy and Avery which is awesome. Doyle and Ethan are back as well and I do appreciate that Doyle does not seem enthralled by Kayli. There was absolutely no advancement on the action plot. Normally this would bother me, but since I don't like the plots of these books and want them to fall into the background so that we focus more on the boys, I'm okay with this.
I didn't plan to read any further into the series, but this book was better than the first three, so I will continue on with a little more hope. Please more focus on the boys, on the relationships, and much less on any intrigue.
Despite my reservations about the polyamory that is central to Ms Stone's writing, she is one of the best storytellers out there today and I find myself hanging on through each book and wanting more, just to see how it all works out in her mind. The characters very well developed and mostly likable, especially the lead female protagonist.
I can tell, however, that Ms Stone rushed this one onto the market a little too fast. It has possibly more typos than any book I've ever read, making me wonder if she even did one re-write, much less have a reliable editor to find the problems that needed fixing. Some breakdowns in the story line also left me wondering if it was thought through as well as it could have been.
Over all, though, it's still an excellent book and I look forward to the next installment. It also leave me anxious for the next installment in the Ghost Bird series, "The Healing Power of Sugar" (if I remember that title correctly). Anyone who has a problem with the more explicit sex in this book may like that series better.
I love this series. This might be my favorite book so far. I literally read it in one day. Could not put it down. I am reading Ghost Bird as well and Kaylie is just a stronger more likable character than Sang, don't get me wrong I love Ghost Bird too. I just love the way that Kaylie handles the guys. She always stands up for herself.
SPOILER**
I was surprised with all of the sexual encounters in this one. They were all pretty intense. She does finally have sex for the first time and I am very surprised at who it is with. I was not expecting that one.
I am so sad that the next book does not come out until next year. -( I will just have to survive off of Ghost Bird in October and cheat sheets from C.L. Stone. If you have not gone to her website please do. She will answer any questions you have.
